Coach Holava

Over the years, Coach H (Scott) has been fortunate to associate with many of the greats in the lacrosse world. Their unique approaches to the game have profoundly impacted his life and coaching style. He appreciates them more each day and is thankful for all they have done for him.
Growing up in Central New York, Coach Holava found himself in the heart of a lacrosse hotbed. He played college lacrosse at SUNY Cortland for two years, a Division III powerhouse, and then at Virginia Wesleyan University (Virginia Wesleyan College back then) for another two years. As a freshman at SUNY Cortland, he was part of the 1986 Final Four team that advanced to the NCAA Semi-Finals where they were defeated by Hobart College. In 1991, Coach H moved to Virginia Beach and transferred to VWC, where he ended his career as an All-ODAC attackman and set the 1991 NCAA single-game scoring record with 13 points (11 assists) in one game. In 1992, he represented VWC in the North/South All-Star game and led the South in scoring with 2 goals and 2 assists. Each year at VWC, a freshman men’s lacrosse player receives the “Scott Holava Most Outstanding Freshman” award.
Coach H is a US Lacrosse Certified Coach who has been coaching youth lacrosse since 2006. He continues to play on Team AARP for adults 35 and over. Residing in Virginia Beach with his three sons, he is self-employed as a software engineer/web developer and enjoys making the internet.
Most recently, he served as Kellam High School’s first coach for its inaugural 2022-23 season, leading the Knights to a strong 15-3 record and a berth in the state quarterfinals. His efforts earned him the title of Regional Coach of the Year.
Coach H joined the Virginia Wesleyan University men’s lacrosse staff in the fall of 2018 and continues to serve as a volunteer assistant. Before coaching at Virginia Wesleyan and Kellam High School, he spent five years (2013-18) as the head varsity boys’ lacrosse coach at Catholic High School.
