When I coach lacrosse, I often remind my players that it’s not enough to just be fast, strong, or skilled. To truly succeed, you need to be a complete athlete — someone who is prepared mentally and physically to face any challenge. The game demands more than talent; it requires discipline, resilience, and sharp focus in high-pressure moments.
Why I Teach My Players to Become a Complete Athlete
The Physical Athlete
The physical side of training is what most people think about first. A physical athlete builds speed, strength, and agility to dominate on the field. They condition their bodies for endurance and power, knowing that physical preparation is the foundation of their performance.
The Mental Athlete
Equally important is the mental side of the game. A mental athlete sharpens sports IQ, understands team dynamics, and strengthens emotional control. They stay calm under pressure, make smart decisions, and recognize how to outthink and outplay opponents.
The Complete Athlete
The best players are those who bring both worlds together. A complete athlete is more than just a standout talent — they are prepared, composed, and ready for anything. Their success comes not only from how fast they run or how hard they hit, but also from how well they think, adapt, and lead.
That’s why my coaching goes beyond drills and conditioning. I want every athlete I train to become complete — to grow not just as players, but as people who can handle the challenges of sports and life.
